What is a Buckskinner---well it is a person that re-enacts the life of the
Mountainman/Trapper of the late 1700's and early 1800's that trapped beaver
in the Rockie Mountains. Many lived with and took up the beliefs of the native
American peoples. They were a individualistic breed that could survive on
they're skills and knoweledge of the land they lived in.
Buckskinner's try to live the life of the old mountainmen through events called
Rendevous, where the "Skinner" met traders, and sold and traded his beaver
hides for more supplies, to help him make it through the next trapping season.
These Rendevous were a place for the Skinner to let loose and have fun after a
hard year spent in the mountains trapping beaver. Competitions were held in
shooting/skinning/tomahawk & knife throwing/fire starting/etc..and of course
DRINKING. The mountainman only had access to spirits when the traders
brought them to the mountains with the other supplies. His priorities were--lead
for shot/powder/traps/coffee/sugar/then liqour/beads/cloth/etc to trade with
the Native American peoples.
So the Rendevous was a big PARTY that most re-enactors have no problem
doing!!!!!!!!!
So enjoy these pic's of some of the Rendevous I have been to!
